19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He saved 4 initial opportunities in a tight final set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
