Household Figures and International Players

Stephen Ireland started playing for the team in preseason this season through close friend and current Wythenshawe teammate Blake Norton, and the former Republic of Ireland midfielder then invited additional former professionals, who all play in a weekly small-sided game, to join in.

"The movement is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

Along with Cisse's six goals on his first game, Stephen Ireland has scored eight in 3 games for Wythenshawe, while Boyd scored 5 on his debut match and Lescott, a defender by trade, notched a triple in one game as a striker.

One opponent, 38, who features on the flank for Collegiate OB, faced former Latics full-back Maynor Figueroa on the weekend - and had to tell his young son who Heskey was.

"The news was going round like a rumor they had these ex-Premier League players," said the player.

"I felt I was a bit starstruck playing against Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] came on and he's got 60-odd England appearances.

"We held our own for a good 20 minutes but then we had a player dismissed and it was tough.

"We literally have not ceased talking about it - I was phoning my mum and sibling on the way home.

"The opponents were all friendly, shaking our hands after the match - it was like facing a bunch of normal fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the return fixture."
