National Football League Round Five Updates: Eagles vs Broncos and Additional Games

Live NFL Coverage

Welcome, football enthusiasts! Get ready for week five of the NFL action, as I deliver every update from the opening window. It's a perfect mid-morning start on the west coast at 10:00 AM (PST), running to an early evening 6pm (BST) in jolly old England. We just saw, the Minnesota Vikings fought back to defeat the Cleveland Browns by four points due to a 12-yard Jordan Addison scoring catch with under half a minute remaining at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Minnesota improve to three wins and two losses, while the Browns drop to 1-4. Today's schedule is already off and running.

Today features a healthy selection of 6 contests to follow:

  • Baltimore Ravens against Texans

  • Carolina Panthers vs Miami Dolphins

  • Indianapolis Colts vs Las Vegas Raiders

  • Saints against Giants

  • Jets v Dallas Cowboys

  • Philadelphia Eagles v Broncos

Key Battle: Philadelphia Host Broncos

A highlight contest is unfolding in Philadelphia with the unbeaten Super Bowl champions welcoming from the Broncos. On paper, you might expect an easy win, but a quick search pops up headlines questioning whether the Eagles are the worst 4-0 team in history. Who knows. What we do know, is they have benefited from some fortune on special teams with multiple blocked attempts, one of which earned a victory against the Rams. A crucial factor will be how Denver defensive coordinator Vance Joseph prepares his linebackers to stop the Eagles' dual threat quarterback Hurts from charging down the field. If they can force the pass, then a significant victory might result for the Broncos, now 2-2, which would have many analysts, myself included, that predicted the Broncos would overthrow the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West looking more optimistic.

Other Matchups to Watch

Elsewhere, a host of one-win wonders are keen to edge closer to a winning record with a win, or right on the button in the case of the Cowboys after their madcap high-scoring draw with the Packers has them at one win, two losses, one tie. Their visit to the Meadowlands to face the winless Jets should do the trick as they aim to keep the offensive fireworks going between QB Dak Prescott and receiver George Pickens. Ultimately, top receiver CeeDee Lamb’s absence might benefit the Cowboys as his expanded duties recently will have accelerated his development, creating the offense stronger when he comes back. In the here and now, the New York's defense needs to be alert and even more to prevent a disappointing fall to zero wins and five losses.

Baltimore Face Houston in Unexpected Matchup

A pair of surprising teams with one win and three losses meet in Maryland as the injury-hit Ravens are guided into battle with the Texans by back-up quarterback Cooper Rush. When these teams met last season, we saw Beyoncé’s stupendous half-time show surrounded by the Texans enduring a devastating one-sided loss at their stadium on Christmas Day, followed by a 34-10 whipping in the playoffs a few weeks after at their venue. But, in the absence of the injured two-time MVP Lamar Jackson on the field, who passed for multiple scores, scored three scores, and racked up massive yardage across the previous games, Houston’s defense will be optimistic.
