The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
